Benedict Chan, graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 2015 with a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Music Education, and received his Artists Diploma in Trumpet Performance in 2016.
Benedict has performed in a variety of settings and genres spanning from Orchestral music, with CAST Philomusica as well as Baroque Cornetto music, and Wind Ensembles. Outside of large ensemble music Benedict has played in Jazz, Funk, and Pop ensembles to round out his diverse musical taste.
Benedict joined CASTYO in 2018 as the assistant conductor and has been coaching and conducting the orchestra alongside Tony Fan and David Lin. In addition to activities around orchestral and trumpet music Benedict has recorded and played with ensembles on the Acoustic and Bass Guitars, and Cajon.
Benedict is an Itinerant Music Instructor for the Toronto District School Board and teaches band to students in Grade 5 to 8. He also teaches privately and covers a vast range of instruments including Piano, Trumpet, and Guitar in his teaching. He strives to bring out the love for music in all his students, and looks to enrich their learning through a welcoming and fun environment.
Jonas Feldman
For over 20 years, Jonas Feldman has dedicated his musical practice to the pursuit of powerful sound, and lyrical interpretation. Intensive study with Keith Johnson, Dr. Leonard Candelaria, and Glenn Fischthal helped shape Feldman’s distinctive style. He has performed with the Edmonton Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony and several other professional organizations worldwide, including the Rome Festival Orchestra. Feldman is a musician in the Canadian Armed Forces, leading the Band of the Governor General Horse Guards. He maintains a large teaching studio in York Region, with many of his students achieving the highest accolades in Royal Conservatory exams. He has a BM from the University of North Texas, an MM from the San Francisco Conservatory of music and further studies at Royal Military College of Canada.
