About Us

The Chinese Artists Society of Toronto Youth Orchestra (CAST Youth Orchestra/CASTYO) was established in 1993. CASTYO is a not-for-profit organization and is affiliated with the Chinese Artists Society of Toronto. The coaching team of CASTYO provides young musicians with professional support and is led by Dong Sheng, music director, David Lin, principal conductor, and Benedict Chan, assistant conductor. CASTYO’s mission is to nurture the talents of young musicians by providing them with orchestral performance experience. For every member of the orchestra, CASTYO hopes to instill a sense of self-discipline and commitment to music and the art of group performance. Through regular practice, rehearsals and performances, members of CASTYO polish their technique, strengthen their appreciation of music, and familiarize themselves with the art of group performance. In addition to performing in concert halls, CASTYO members perform at local community events on a volunteer basis. In the last 26 years, CASTYO members have performed for seniors at retirement homes, and also hold free concerts at churches and shopping centers in the community. CASTYO values the opportunity to share their love of classical music with all members of our community.
